About object:

Naujamiestis (The New City) is Vilnius’ district that is rapidly changing its face and forming its distinctive aura. It can be described not only as a place focused on conversion of industrial buildings and sites into residential housing, but also as an evolving embassy district. The “Embassy House” in Kalinausko str. was initially designed as a building for diplomatic representations of Finland and Norway, but now it also has apartments and offices installed. The building is an extension to the traditional formation of this quarter – the perimeter planning of the area between J. Basanavičiaus and K. Kalinausko streets. The authoritative buildings of outstanding architecture that are located in the surroundings: the XIX c. church, Palace of Marriages (as well as the destination of this object), conditioned, according to the authors, the architecturally monumental solution of the new object. Materials of quiet color palettes form a harmonious rhythmic expression – an official “face” of the building, to which a subtle expression is added by the project authors’ original square design solution: neatly combined coverings, benches and arrangements of trees. In the facades of the yard, the sedateness of the building dissolves in glass facades, terraces and balconies.
