House of Blessed Archbishop Jurgis Matulaitis arisen in Kaunas Kalniečių Park dominates nearby in the context of extending small low-rise building. This is quite a monumental building; however, this potentially massive integrity is aptly split into two parts according to the potential of functional isolation. Two volumes of different planned forms inwardly accommodate the functions different by their own essence – the publicity, praise and privacy, studies and reflection. Forming two volumes, the authors encoded in them two essential features of the Universal Church – Gospel of proclaiming and constantly on the go.
Peaceful, majestic, colourfully and materially homogeneous building is visually “crushed” and set closer to the adjacent building by rhythmic strips of windows, minimal decor strips and a pitched roof protuberant above the block of the House of Social activities and study.
Inside, in addition to the chapel, there are rooms for reflection, studies: the library, study rooms and enclosed religious orders for nurses, residential guest rooms, dining- room and the kitchen, utility room.
