Multifunctional Complex ‘North Star’
Architects:
Simonas Talandzevičius, Mindaugas LeliūgaAbout object:
The place of a new business centre in Vilnius is a peculiar boundary between the modern residential area and the busy central zone of the capital. It is established at one of the main entries to the regenerated Northern part of the town. The parcel was divided into two parts considering the needs: one part of the plot was intended to residential purposes, the other – to commerce. Thus a concept of the object “Yin and Yang” was born. One part of the building is prominent, the other – residential one – is calmer. The environment is formed correspondingly: the commercial building with its corps creates a comfortable shelter for the residential area.
Administrative building had to be recognizable, like a symbol. The dynamic character of the business centre is created by open planes inclined over the pavements finished in natural grey slate and targeted toward the most visible street intersections.
The façades of the residential building are white (in continuation of the “Yin and Yang” conception) and divided diversely. The focus is on people’s safety and comfort, thus a cosy forecourt, which is accessible only from the residential building landings, is also intended for them. Distinctive features of the apartment house are quality, well-being, serenity and simplicity.
