The task is to design an individual house in a pictorial location. Although the clients wanted the house with historical motives, the architects presented with an alternative – a one-story house without right angles, the main focus being an observation deck overlooking Neris River and miniature panorama of Kaunas city.
The entire volume of the building is plastically divided according to the internal functional diagram. Bedrooms are designed in the southeastern part of the building. The common area of the kitchen, dining room and living room is framed by the integral curved glass wall. Although the common room faces the north, because of the sweeping view there is plenty of sunshine in the family gathering area coming through the side glass walls. Plastic glass wall divides the common area organically: the dining room is in the western end of the common area, and the living room – in the eastern.
Brick walls of the house are finished with planks. Gray colour of wood perfectly fits to gray surroundings reflecting in the showcase windows during the cold period, while in the warm period it becomes an invisible background for the rich surroundings. Minimalistic and organic form of the building and neutral materials help the building not to overshadow this perfect nature place, to blend into it, and to accentuate its elegance.
