Hotel “Comfort Hotel LT”

Very likely the district most cardinally changing its face during the country’s restored independence period is Vilnius city district – Naujamiestis, which in 2012 was added up with yet another building. The volume of Hotel “Comfort Hotel LT” that has risen up at the intersection of Kauno and Mindaugo streets lays the foundations for multi-residential buildings and new public spaces emerging nearby.

The building’s volumetric-spatial composition was dictated by the urban situation – the street intersection. An undemonstrative, one-piece, L-shaped volume in the schemed expression in a classic way emphasizes the angular construction. The main entrance formed at the junction is  laconically accentuated by a glass volume “hanging” over it with the hotel room loggias  hidden in an original way.

In the process of the design much of the attention was focused on the search for architectural expression of the object and interaction with multi-residential buildings rising up in the neighbourhood and the old-timers located along Kauno street. For the expression of the facades the interpretation of calm of architectural stylistics of the beginning of the 20th century and inter-war period was selected. The rhythmics of the window openings was determined by a rational layout of the hotel rooms. However, in the composition of the facades this rigorous division of windows is aimed to put into a second layout by inserting vertical decorative strips focusing on lighting at night.

The placid exterior of the building is contrasted with its interior. Here a modern space pulsating with music and youthful energy unwillingly makes one to reconsider this building and its relationship with the image of Naujamiestis being in the process of development.
