A Block of Apartment Houses in Kriviu Street

Dominant expressive natural forms, development of suburban residential home-villas of the 19th century style with the inserts of bulky array of the 20th century style apartment houses structure a unique space of Kriviu Street.
Upon modern rehash of traditional architectural principles, the architects created a courteous image of the block epitomizing a new epoch. Following the example of historical suburban areas, the authors of the project located small scale houses ( of 2-3 storeys) in the territory irregularly.
The features typical of historic surrounding buildings: gable roofs, proportions and colours of buildings – sounded newly in the block of “Kriviu houses”. The modern character is enhanced by “polished” up to minimalism, clear silhouettes of buildings, and façades not overloaded with elements.
The buildings, which arose in the second stage of construction, infuse the block into the historic and natural environment especially naturally: they are smaller and thus closer to the scale of the adjacent villas; moderate colour palette of white and grey, roofs of grey tin specific to the old architecture of the region.
The block of residential houses situated in the remote part of the old town, surrounded by greenness of the conformation of Kalnai Park (literally: Park of Hills) and Uzupis neighbourhood is one of the best examples of an accord between historical and contemporary architecture in Vilnius City.
