About object:

Infrequent building is given a possibility to remain for centuries. Not very conspicuous house distinguishing from the outside in the context of Vilnius Old Town itself can accommodate the unique stages of Lithuanian history, highlighting the tune and harmony of the nature and man-made works. The interior opens the architecture of baroque, classical and historicism periods, and polychrome decoration emerges as a very strong and powerful basis for educational function of Amber gallery – museum.

During complex research, revealed dead of centuries helped the designers to create a space where not only natural exhibits – amber speak, but also the walls and floors. Coming down a few steps to the gallery from the street (70cm), from the twenty first century we access the environment of the seventeenth century. Another 3 meters below, in the basement, we find ourselves near the fragment of authentic stone paving that opens the cultural layer of the XIV – XV centuries – the ground, where the first residents of in this part of Vilnius city used to walk. Here a unique archaeological finding is uncovered – a pottery furnace of the end of the fifteenth century – one of the best preserved in Europe. The dishes and tiles annealed in these furnaces and restored as well as the place discovered nearby are displayed here.
