Entertainment and Leisure Club “Sūkurys” (“Swirl”)

Druskininkai is the oldest and largest resort in Lithuania. The resort distinguishes not only by its turbulent nature, but also by the expressive resort architecture. Such the environment encourages architects not to be content with standard architectural solutions.

When designing the leisure club “Sukūrys”, its authors tried to make the building “organic in the natural environment and blending into the conformation by its changing forms and colours.”

The plastic shape of the building’s roof, similar to a wave, is original. Even more playfulness to the structure is provided by the façade decoration – the architects have chosen the colour tonality reflecting different natural elements: there dominate colours of earth, water, fire and air elements.

The fact that the club is on a hill, has become its advantage: instead of turning up, the building – in order to accommodate all the desired equipment – has been dug underground, where all necessary premises are equipped.

The picturesque surroundings have also determined the desire of architects to glass the front walls – to provide the visitors of the club with a possibility to enjoy the bewitching landscape. This sensitive cultural environment, the heritage area, a Museum of M. K. Čiurlionis situated nearby and the lake Druskonis decided the distinctive, allied to the town Druskininkai, and humane character of the building.
