Residential House in Utriai

About object:

The land plot on a slope of the Valley of Minija River with the opening panorama to the picturesque valley is already a part of the task for the architects designing a residential house in this place. According to the authors of the project, the location of the land plot and the customer’s profession (he is a businessman trading in livestock products) encouraged them to improvise on the theme of Noah’s Ark.

The large-area building consists of two oblong rectangular volumes connected at an approximately 30-degree angle, one of which gradually gets off the ground and the greater part of it is floating in the air as if a ship’s fore. A monolithic reinforced concrete construction is used for its console. The building should also allude to the ship due to its decoration by horizontal dark larch planks. The end of the upwards towering volume is all glazed with showcase windows; therefore it is translucent and creates a sense of lightness that harmonises composition of the building.

In the volume situated closer to the river, there is a ground floor facing to the river with its large showcase windows, where all premises of common attendance are concentrated. In the hanging volume, there is a first floor with three bedrooms and bathrooms.

The house of the picturesque architecture attracts attention by its expressive shape and the immense sense of freedom.
