About object:

The author reached for two goals while reconstructing Kaunas county court building: on the one hand, he wanted to design an attractive building embodying the spirit of these days, on the other hand, it had to satisfy the image of a solid institution.

Urban surroundings were the starting point for modeling the new appearance for Court chambers: “The new façade of the building was being adapted to the context of Naujamiestis, representativeness was sought,” – said the architect. The composition of the façade was slightly changed, however, the overall character of the building was preserved. Playfully composed volumetric window frames add variety to the strict geometric lines dividing the façade.

The interior structure of the building is also rational and clear: the building is being divided into three blocks: entrance, public sector, where the court office, spokesman, etc., are located, and at the other side of the entrance block – the largest part of the building, where all courtrooms and other utility premises are located.

A. Akelis succeeded to reach the goals: to design a modern, esthetic building corresponding to the functional requirements and matching the surroundings.
