Administrative Building of Prosecutor’s Office in Vilnius
Architects:
Kęstutis LupeikisAbout object:
An architectural-plastic idea of the building – a cube – conceptually gives a sense of order, stability, strength and austerity. This form is the best reflection of the object’s specificity and generates an exceptionally suggestive, concentrated image of a law enforcement agency.
One of the more important formants of the building’s image is black, polished granite used for exterior finish, which, as s natural and noble material, has to highlight the level of solidity essential for one of the most fundamental law enforcement authorities. It covers the object like a black long robe covers a prosecutor.
An aggressive, dynamic rhythmics of oblique windows is contrasted to the composition of strict geometry, ascetic black cube-shaped volume, as the movement is an integral part of the nature of prosecutor’s office activity.
The aim was to achieve high-quality and artistically conceptual outcome, rather than an obsequiousness to the environment and dissolution in it. The Black Cube expresses a sort of desire to stand out from the surrounding development of grey buildings, to “deliver” the new tonality and sound to the territory, and to become a pause – a black dot, embodying search of quietness in the noise of the city.
