Individual residential house in Papiškės

A laconic-volumed individual single-family residential house has been designed for Vilnius district, Papiškės village. This is a place featuring an expressive relief, where the building has emerged on the top of the hill. From here a perfect panorama of the surrounding environs opens up and at the bottom of the hill there is a small lake Gaganas. So, architects V. Lukoševičius and A. Syrusas just had to keep their ears open and listen to the language of nature and to “infuse” a new volume to the context in such a way so that these beautiful views would remain visible.

A transparent volumetric composition of glass and white planes create an impression of tracery and lightness responsively using the relief and nestling against the ground. In such a way an exciting, growing in half stories functional space is being designed. The ground floor features the living room with huge glass windows and a terrace, after moving up a couple of stairs there is a kitchen-dining room, work room and sauna. The space of the sleeping rooms on the second floor is divided into two levels. The lower level has a spacious master bedroom and a child’s room both effusing into the spacious outdoor terrace, whereas on the upper zone of the second floor there are two other rooms – for a child and guests.

A fragile building’s composition is jointly coupled with the site’s solution, terraces and the outdoor pool smoothly emerging from the slope. A harmonious intermingling of the space flowing in the building’s contour lines and verticals with the environment has been appraised internationally. The project won the award “Leonardo Award 2011” for the best design of an individual house.
