House in Kumelionys
Architects:
Alvydas ŠeibokasAbout object:
The residential house built near a pond of the town Marijampolė makes an impression of a complex structure. In a hilly land plot, the house spaces are distributed over multiple levels, their variety of heights is obvious, when looking at the building from the outside. The dynamic silhouette of the different volumes captures an eye by its elegant proportions. However, the main cause of the building elegance is yellow polished sandstone, which covers all façades of the building. Dark aluminium window frames contrast with the bright sandstone further emphasizing the paleness of the stone.
In the inclined part of the land plot, at the west side of the building, there is equipped a basement floor, which houses the SPA facilities: a swimming pool, a sauna, a sanitary knot, a room for interaction and a kitchen. Upon climbing up a half of a floor (rising on a natural hill), one accesses to the ground floor perpendicular to the SPA volume, in which the most part of the premises is designed. Both a parents’ bedroom and a child’s room are set in separate, slightly isolated spaces.
So, the building is designed by using the voluminous land plot and herewith its salience, thus creating several quick accessible, but separate spaces.
