House NRK
Architects:
Ramūnas Raslavičius, Eglė RaslavičienėAbout object:
A picturesque place is usually the starting-point for an architectural idea. The residential house NRK designed by R. Raslavičius and E. Raslavičienė is built at the downhill of the valley Marvelė in Noreikiškės, at the junction of two small streets of the neighbourhood. The architects have exploited the advantages of the situation and turned its limitations into an important part of their architectural concept.
The house consists of two parts, the biggest one of which decorated with wood is as if pulled over a greyish plastered volume of the technical premises: a garage, other auxiliary facilities and a corridor. If the masonry part is interrelated with the urbanized environment, the large-scale part of the building that houses residential rooms is getting in touch with the natural environment.
The arch-shaped house hides rationally planned spaces. The functional areas of the ground floor are arranged from the most intensively used toward the ones intended for resting: the place for a kitchen has been chosen closest to the main entrance, next to it is a dining-room, and at the end of the house, there is a living-room, from which a cosy terrace to the side of the valley Marvelė is set out. As it is customary, the private rooms have found their places on the first floor.
The original shape of the house, aptly chosen materials and rationally arranged spaces make the building unique in its environment.
