SBA Furniture Salon
Architects:
Sigitas Kuncevičius, Artūras JakutisAbout object:
In the recent decades, a busy Ukmergės Street connecting a centre of Vilnius City with sleeping areas and residential suburbs was increasingly framed by a “layer” of commercial objects. According to the architects, in the context of the street development concentrate with salons of auto, electrical engineering, finishing materials and supermarkets, they had no wish to create a building further enhancing the architectural cacophony, so they had chosen a construction of quiet volume composition.”
It still is the unique one, however – the building of SBA furniture salon distinguishes by its interesting, high-tech style reminding character, which is most clearly expressed by its basic facade to the Ukmergės Street. The monotony of long facade finished with horizontal metal blinds is resolved by a rhythm of vertical frames with inserted main stresses – three glassy bay-windows of different sizes.
This subject was one of the first ones to escape from the prose of commercial buildings – uniform supermarkets.
