About object:

One of the most unique characteristics of Kaunas is the architecture of the inter-war period, which reflects the architectural spirit of the city. The stylistic connection unites different neighbourhoods, creating a harmonious unity. The new faculty is located in Vilijampolė, the territory of LSMU Veterinary Academy (LVA). The complex and eight of its objects, dating back to the 4th decade of the 20th c. was included into the registry of cultural heritage, and consists of several objects, which belong to different periods of time: the inter-war period (1930 and 1936), as well as the Soviet era. The Faculty of Public Health is located on the eastern part of the plot, completing the perimeter of buildings along the entire territory and situated in front of one of the most mature buildings of the complex — the clinics. The arch as the key detail of the main entrance became one of the sources of inspiration for the primary creative impulse of the composition of the new building. A clear advantage of this object is the sense of context, drawing inspiration from its environment even in choosing the decorative materials and colour, which helps to incorporate the building into the complex, characterised by rather different forms of expression. White plaster finishing creates a solid and monolithic impression. All components of the building and carefully picked smallest of details, such as the ground-floor lighting of the arcades along the foot of the columns delight the eye. As the authors of the project say: “The design was based on the architectural example of the modern period, which focuses on the respect for the surrounding people and space, which can be both seen and felt in Kaunas.” This is truly the case with the new building of LSMU Faculty of Public Health.
