in Druskininkai is one of the examples how the state encourages private builders to endeavour better quality architecture. The architect confessed to have plodded at length to prevent the emergence of a faceless metal box in one of the main resorts in Lithuania. Instead, the architect decided to leaven the form of the construction – to create it combining several volumes, and to highlight their distinction by varying facade decoration. The author of the project selected clinker bricks, boards and concrete as construction finishes for implementation of this idea. The division of the object into different volumes has functional approach: administrative premises have been set in a two-storey part, whereas a three-storey volume is meant for archives, technical facilities and operational halls. These parts are connected by the three and a half storey lobby volume, which features the main accent of the object being the axis of the entire composition.
According to the author, one of the main priorities in the design of the structure was striving “not to spoil the fragile landscape of Druskininkai resort by a massive building.” For architecture of this object, in 2007, the author was awarded honourable mention by the Minister of Environment “For achievements in the field of architecture and urbanism.”
